Looking for a Real Estate Agent Near Lewisburg, PA? Here’s What I’d Want You to Know First

You typed “real estate agent near Lewisburg, PA” into Google, and now you’re looking at a wall of names, star ratings, and ads. I get it. I scroll the same pages you do… and honestly, most of them don’t tell you the one thing you actually need to know: who knows this town well enough to get you the right house, or the right price, without wasting your time?

So let me help you sort through it.

Quick answer: The best way to find a real estate agent near Lewisburg, PA is to look for a licensed REALTOR® who works Union County and the Susquehanna Valley every week, check their license on the Pennsylvania PALS license search, read their recent reviews, and interview two or three of them before you sign anything. Local brokerages, the Central Susquehanna Valley Board of REALTORS®, and the national REALTOR® directory are all good places to start.

Why this matters in Lewisburg specifically

Lewisburg isn’t a market you can fake your way through from forty miles away. It’s a borough with a downtown on Market Street, a university town with Bucknell right there, a hospital in WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital, and quick access to Route 15 and I-80. That mix means buyers come from everywhere… people relocating for a new role, people moving up from a starter house, people buying a second property close to campus.

And when that many different buyers want the same few streets, the agent who knows how this market actually moves wins. The one who doesn’t, guesses.

What to look for in a Lewisburg real estate agent

They work Union County, not just “Pennsylvania”

Ask how many homes they’ve helped buy or sell in Lewisburg, Mifflinburg, or the townships around them. You want someone who knows the difference between a house in the borough and one ten minutes out in Buffalo or Kelly Township… because buyers price those very differently.

They’re licensed and in good standing

Every Pennsylvania agent has to hold a license through the State Real Estate Commission. You can look anyone up in about thirty seconds on PALS. Do it. It’s free and it’s public.

They’re a REALTOR®, not just a licensee

Those aren’t the same thing. A REALTOR® is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and agrees to its Code of Ethics. Locally, most of us belong to the Central Susquehanna Valley Board of REALTORS®, which covers Union, Snyder, Northumberland, Columbia, and Montour counties.

They talk numbers, not vibes

Ask them what’s actually sold near the house you’re looking at, not just what’s listed. If they can’t walk you through it, keep looking.

They explain how they’re paid, in writing

Since August 2024, buyers working with a REALTOR® sign a written agreement before touring. NAR has a plain-English guide to written buyer agreements if you want to read it before you ever sit down with anyone.

Where to actually find agents near Lewisburg

You’ve got real options here, and I’d rather you see all of them than pretend I’m the only one:

  1. Local brokerages. Lewisburg has long-standing offices like Coldwell Banker Penn One Real Estate on Market Street and CENTURY 21 Mertz & Associates on Old Turnpike Road, and Bowen Agency Realtors has offices across the Susquehanna Valley.
  2. The local board. The Central Susquehanna Valley Board of REALTORS® even has a short read on why to work with a REALTOR®.
  3. National directories. Realtor.com’s agent finder and the NAR REALTOR® directory let you search by town.
  4. Google Maps and reviews. Look for agents with recent, specific reviews… not just five stars and “great job!”
  5. The people you trust. Ask your coworkers at Bucknell or the hospital who they used. Real talk, that’s still the best filter there is.

What nobody tells you about choosing an agent

Here’s the thing… the agent you pick matters more than the website you found the house on. Every portal shows the same listings. What they don’t show you is the house that’s about to hit the market, the seller who’d take a cleaner offer over a higher one, or the inspection item that’s actually a $400 fix and not a dealbreaker.

I don’t believe in hiring the first name that pops up because they paid for the top ad spot. Interview people. Ask hard questions. You won’t hurt anyone’s feelings… including mine.

Where I fit in

I’m Stephanie Smego, a REALTOR® with Iron Valley Real Estate Mid Penn. My office is in Selinsgrove, about fifteen minutes down Route 15, and I work Lewisburg and Union County every week. I mostly help people who are moving up into more house, relocating into or out of central PA, or buying a second property. That’s my lane, and I love it.

My story is on my About page, and you can see my listings on my Iron Valley site. If you’d rather get to know me first, I share the real, unglamorous side of this job on Instagram @stephaniesmegorealtor and Facebook.

Quick FAQ: Lewisburg real estate agents

How do I check if a Lewisburg real estate agent is licensed?

Search their name on the Pennsylvania Department of State’s PALS website. It shows license type, status, and expiration.

Does it cost more to use a local agent?

No. Agent compensation is negotiable no matter where the agent is based, and it should be explained to you in writing up front.

Do I need a different agent for Lewisburg and Selinsgrove?

Not usually. Many of us work across Union, Snyder, and Northumberland counties. Just ask how often they’re actually in the town you care about.
