There isn’t one magic list of every real estate agent in central Pennsylvania. I wish there were. Instead there are about seven different places, each showing a slightly different slice, and most people give up after the first two.
So I pulled them all together in one spot. Bookmark this one 😊
Quick answer: The most reliable real estate agent directories for central PA are the Pennsylvania Department of State’s PALS license search (every licensed agent), the NAR REALTOR® directory (REALTOR® members), the local Central Susquehanna Valley Board of REALTORS®, national portals like Realtor.com and Zillow, and local brokerage websites.
Why one directory is never enough
Each directory answers a different question:
- Is this person licensed? That’s the state.
- Are they a REALTOR® bound by a Code of Ethics? That’s NAR and the local board.
- What have they actually sold, and what do clients say? That’s the portals and Google.
- Who do they work with, and what’s their focus? That’s the brokerage and their own website.
Use them together and you’ll know more about an agent in twenty minutes than most people learn in a whole transaction.
The directories, one by one
1. Pennsylvania PALS license search (the official one)
PALS is run by the Pennsylvania Department of State. It lists every licensed real estate salesperson and broker, with license status and expiration. The State Real Estate Commission oversees licensing. If someone isn’t here, they can’t legally represent you in a PA sale.
2. The NAR REALTOR® directory
The National Association of REALTORS® directory lets you search members by name or location. Every REALTOR® agrees to the Code of Ethics.
3. The Central Susquehanna Valley Board of REALTORS®
The CSVBR is the local association for Snyder, Union, Northumberland, Columbia, and Montour counties, based in Danville. Their site is a solid local resource, including a consumer FAQ. Statewide, the Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS® links to every local board.
4. Realtor.com and Zillow
Realtor.com’s agent finder and Zillow’s agent directory show reviews and recent sales activity. Great for a quick snapshot. Just know that how high an agent shows up can depend on advertising, not only performance.
5. Local brokerage websites
Brokerage sites list their own agents, usually with bios. Around here that includes Bowen Agency Realtors, Coldwell Banker Penn One Real Estate in Lewisburg, CENTURY 21 Mertz & Associates in Lewisburg, and Iron Valley Real Estate Mid Penn in Selinsgrove, where I hang my license.
6. Google Maps and Google Business Profiles
Search “real estate agent Selinsgrove” or “real estate agent Lewisburg” in Google Maps. Real local agents show up with an office, reviews, photos, and posts. Look for recent activity… it tells you they’re actually working.
7. Chambers of commerce
The Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Central PA Chamber of Commerce list member businesses, including real estate offices.
What nobody tells you about directories
A directory gives you names. It doesn’t give you judgment.
It can’t tell you whether an agent will pick up the phone on a Saturday, whether they understand what a house on acreage in Snyder County is worth compared to one in the Selinsgrove borough, or whether they’ll be straight with you when your price is off. You only learn that by talking to them.
So use the directories to build a short list. Then make some calls.
A simple 20-minute process
- Pull 5 names from Google Maps and Realtor.com for your town.
- Check each on PALS. Cross off anyone not active.
- Check the NAR directory to confirm REALTOR® membership.
- Read their last 10 reviews. Look for specifics.
- Call or message your top 3 with the same three questions about your move.
Pay attention to who answers your question instead of reciting their résumé.
The local piece
Our five counties are big, and they’re not the same market. Selinsgrove, Shamokin Dam, Middleburg, Lewisburg, Mifflinburg, Milton, Sunbury, Northumberland… each one prices and moves a little differently. The Borough of Selinsgrove, Union County, Northumberland County, and the City of Sunbury all have local info worth a look if you’re new here. A directory won’t tell you any of that. A good local agent will.
